We’ve grown out of touch with our bodies. Most of us struggle to understand that the musculoskeletal aches, pains and symptoms we experience are often our body’s way of warning us that there is something worse to come if we keep ignoring it.
Think of your car.
You’re driving along and the ‘check oil’ light pops on. You could ignore it by covering it up, but the problem still exists that there is not enough oil. I’m no mechanic, but we all know, driving with no oil is doing bad things to your engine’s insides. Eventually this will cause degeneration and vital pieces to break down.
The same can be said about those ‘normal’ aches and pains too many of us experience. This is our body’s ‘check oil’ light, telling you something needs to be addressed before further damage can be done.
A neat little feature. Too bad we don’t pay much attention to it anymore. Instead we cover up these warning signs with quick fix pills, creams and treatments. Meanwhile the problem progresses under the surface.
So what is your body trying to tell you? For musculoskeletal pain, it can be any, or a combination of the following:
- Incorrect posture
- Muscular imbalances
- An old injury not properly rehabilitated
- Lacking flexibility
- Lacking strength
- Poor technique/form
- Not warming up or cooling down properly
Make sure you start paying attention to your body’s warning light. When musculoskeletal pain become regular, it’s time to see someone who can help you resolve the cause of the pain, not just the pain itself. Don’t let things become chronic.
