5 Steps To Getting Most Benefit After Every Treatment

You’ve just had an amazing massage from your new favourite Skeletal Harmonics therapist. You might feel a little tender in some spots, dazed or simply relaxed. However you feel, there are a few simple things you should do to get the most benefit from your treatment.

STEP 1 – Drink More Water: After a massage, it is good to increase your water intake. A treatment will often stir up metabolic waste which is most quickly eliminated by drinking water. On top of this, your muscles will become slightly dehydrated and in need of replenishing (like you had just exercised).

If you hate drinking plain water, try adding a slice of lemon for a more hydrating and alkalizing option. Also try some of the healthy tea options such as green or white leaves, for an extra boost of antioxidants. And if you totally hate the idea of drinking water, then eat more of it – stock up on plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.

STEP 2 – Rest: It’s easy to undo all the good of a treatment if you don’t give your muscles sufficient time to rest. Depending on your fitness level it’s a good idea to take a break from any strenuous activity for one to two days after a massage.

This gives your body a chance to recover and continue to realign. Going into heavy exercise too quickly can trigger your muscles to tighten back up in old patterns.

STEP 3 – Take A Hot Bath: Relaxing in a tub of hot water can be hugely beneficial if you can find the time. The heat will stimulate your circulation, relax your muscles and help speed up recovery. Adding a cup of Epsom salts to your baths will make it even better. The body absorbs magnesium from the salts which is a vital nutrient for the proper function and relaxation of your muscles.

If you’re not a bath sort of person. Try using heat packs on aching areas or rubbing in liniment (like Fisiocrem) instead.

STEP 4 – Follow Our Advice: You’ve paid good money to come see us. When we give you exercises, stretches or changes to do at home, make sure you follow them. Our goal is to not only get you out of pain and feeling human again as quickly as possible, but also to maintain your physical health for the long term. In the end it’s up to you if you want to follow our advice, but we’ll keep recommending things if we think they’re beneficial for you.

STEP 5 – Follow Up: A general rule of thumb for treatment frequency, is while you’re in pain, seeing us once or twice a week. Decreasing visits as your pain begins to resolve itself. For general maintenance, four to six weeks is usually a good time frame. But everyone is different, so come in as often or as little as your body needs.
